HoneyBear: Good To Go!

This journal entry is for serious followers only (lol). It’s potty talk, and only someone that has a furkid or two will appreciate it!

It has been a challenge to potty with my two splinted longer and straighter legs. Dr. MacKenzie says that my bandages must stay dry, so I’ve had to use the patio which I absolutely hate! To keep me upright and balanced, Mom arranges her family tartan Pendleton scarf around my tummy kinda like a sling.

Well today Mom carried me out to the grass in back. She gently placed me down on all fours and I went potty without any help whatsoever. Then I quickly put it in first gear and accelerated in my version of a doggie gallop. It completely surprised Mom because I’ve never had to be on a leash before. Now I was doing a Lewis and Clark away from Mom and she was laughing and crying at the same time. I guess it was an emotional moment for her.

Mom was prepared with her camera the next time we ventured out back. I was not as animated, but take a look at this newest photo. It is proof positive for all of my fans that I am able to stand ever-so-briefly on all four of my legs. I could get pretty used to this whole idea. It has only been a little over a week since my surgery so I’m pretty darn proud of myself!

  1. HoneyBear, I'm pretty darn proud of you too! Your Mom is so wonderful and is taking such good care of you. I just know those little legs are healing wonderfully under those splints. My Mom was laughing when she read that you did a 'Lewis and Clark'. That's so funny! I love looking at your picture with all that determination in your face.

  3. I'm hoping that Dr. MacKenzie isn't reading my journal cuz he said to begin "gentle pressure". I've gotta go-with-the-flow for better long term results. But quite frankly, I'm getting a little bored peeking out from my play pen. Thank goodness Mom takes a few breaks and rocks me and pets me and takes me out to the mailbox. My favorite part is when Dad comes home. Talk about attention!

  6. Hi Draco,
I guess it was a momentary glitch cuz now I can see your comment. Tomorrow I'm going for a recheck and bandages change at the clinic, but I expect to remain pretty much satus quo for awhile (smile).

  7. HoneyBear, you are simply adorable in those colorful splint socks...Tell me, what does it feel like to run free, the very first time, on the grass? Were you afraid, or happy? We have some pugs here in Bowling Green who worked at a backyard puppymill, just like you did...and they are SO afraid of grass! You are one brave little girl, HB...thank you for sharing your journey, especially your new photos. You have such an expressive face--maybe we'll find you on the cover of "BARK" one day. Or maybe Dad will treat Mom to a nice flip camera so we can all watch you take a few steps on YouTube? You're Daddy's girl so I'm sure he'd get one if YOU asked him too...Hugs to all, Hannah, Jack, Frankie, Peanut, Cookie, angels Dandy & Peanut, and the cat crew...

  9. Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. It has been hectic around our house lately...and not just because of me! I am hoping to convince Mom to take a few moments soon and help me write another update. I'll put it on her calendar with all of the other to-do items on her checklist (smile)

  11. Draco,
Yes, Mom has a lot on her plate with rescue and personal stuff, including urgent family matters in California. She says that she will help me write a journal update within a couple of days. I am doing fine with pretty much everything being routine with an eye to my 8-week mark. Mom wasn't sure that people would still be checking in on my progress. Thanks for asking!
