FUSE or FUZE?

Mom wanted me to explain a little more in detail about my surgery. For each leg, Dr. MacKenzie aligned the broken bones and then inserted metal plates to hold them firmly in place. Over time, my body makes new bone mass around the area. The advantage of this procedure is that my straighter stronger legs enable me to walk. The disadvantage is that my ankles are fused in a way that prevents them from bending. But it isn’t really a minus in the whole scheme of things. I am able to walk on my paw pads like any other dog and can hold my rawhide chews just fine-and-dandy.

Mom told me that she agreed to let Dr. McKenzie fuse my bones because she thought it mysteriously involved her favorite beverage … Fuze! (Yum-yum.) Of course she was only kidding, and no doubt you have become very familiar with Mom’s weird sense of humor. I’ve learned to take it in my stride and life would be pretty boring without her funny laugh.

Mom has been challenged to take a good picture of me walking. By the time she follows me on a brief jaunt and tries to focus the camera, I spoil everything by sitting down or turning my head to see a squirrel. I hear her ‘wheels turning’ though. So maybe sometime soon she will outsmart me (not a chance) and take an ‘aw-w-w-w’ photo so all of you can see how great I am doing.

  2. It always makes me happy to see your cute little face. It even makes me happier to see your straight legs. If your Mom gets a picture of you walking, wow, that would be the best!! I'm so glad you are healing so nicely.

  4. Hi Draco, Cupcake and Ruthie,
I cannot believe that all of you are taking time to check in on me. Mom and I knew that we would have to let the healing process go at its own rate. It has only been a little over 6 weeks since surgery and the doctor is pretty happy despite a couple of set-backs. I will continue to write updates as long as people and fur friends are following my story.

  5. HoneyBear,
Just stopped in to check on you! Glad you are doing good. Love seeing your adorable little face!
Are you going to stay with your mom furever, or is she just fostering you until you are all better? Also, do you have any other fur friends in your home?
    Just curious??

  7. Hi Peanut (we have a Peanut at our house also), your Mom Kim and Cira (another devoted follower of mine),
I am sorry not to answer my well-wishers in a more timely manner. But Mom has been under the weather and I had a little set-back myself. Me and my fur siblings are trying to be on our best behavior because Mom needs some TLC once in while too! In a few days, we have good intentions about updating my journal blog and including a new photo.
